Three Card Poker Strategy - Strategy for Three Card Poker

Three card poker is two card games together – Ante/Play and Pair Plus. Learning a strategy for this poker game involves two game strategies.

The creation of Three Card Poker is accredited to Derek Webb, an expert poker player. Also known as Tri Card Poker or Tri Poker, this variant is available as both real money and fun games in online poker rooms and casinos. Poker players are fond of Three Card Poker because it is only easy, but also fun to play.

Three Card Poker is played with a deck of 52 cards. This poker variant comprises 2 games rolled into 1—the Ante/Play and the Pair Plus. In some casinos, players can choose to play one of these games; and in others, players must play both. In Ante/Play, the player only has to compete against the dealer. Pair Plus offers bonuses for hands that contain one pair or something better than that. Each table has 3 betting circles, of which the topmost is the Pair Plus and the other 2 are the Ante and the Play.

Players begin by betting on the Ante and/or the Pair Plus. After posting the best, players are dealt 3 face-up cards. The dealers have 3 face-down cards, which the players cannot see. Players can study their cards, and those who made the Ante bet are then required to raise or fold. Players who fold forfeit their Ante bet; and those who raise make a Play bet that is equal to the Ante bet.

Dealers then show their cards. If the dealers have a Queen High or better, they must compare their hands to that of the players, and the higher hand wins the pot. If dealers do not have the qualifying hand, players will win even money on the Ante Bet. If players who made the Ante bet have a straight or a higher hand, they will win an Ante bonus, irrespective of the quality of the dealers’ hands.

In Three Card Poker, a straight is higher than a flush. This is because making a straight with 3 cards is much more difficult than making a flush with 3 cards.

Clearly, Three Card Poker is all about betting. The most crucial decision players need to make while playing this variant of poker is how much they should bet. While the game doesn’t have a lot of strategies involved in it, players can follow one of the following betting styles—the conservative style or the aggressive style.

When players make an Ante or Play bet equal to that of the Pair Plus bet, they are betting conservatively. When players bet less on the Ante or Play and more on the Pair Plus, they are betting aggressively. A good Three Card player usually begins betting conservatively and ends up betting aggressively only if the going is good.

To play a successful game of Three Card Poker, players ought to know exactly how high their hands ought to be in order to play them. Hands of Q, 6, and 4 or higher are the ideal hands to play. A good Three Card Poker player is an expert at placing bets.
